Made with British Pasture Leather

  • "As a leather worker who has championed traceable leather for over 15 years, being able to work with British Pasture Leather is incredibly meaningful. Knowing each hide comes from regenerative farms where care for the land and environment is central and resonates deeply with my values. I’m proud of what Alice and Sara have built, and excited to support a company with such grounded roots and a clear vision for the future."

    – Katy Warriner, WARRINER LEATHER

  • “We absolutely LOVE working with this leather! It’s the perfect balance of handle and suppleness. I’m very excited by it, and what I can use it for going forward.”

    – Ali Goodman, FRANCLI CRAFTWEAR

  • "At HERD it’s very difficult to find suppliers with both luxury-quality product that also meet our high provenance and sustainability standards. British Pasture Leather are the exception to the rule - with a British supply chain underpinned by natural processing methods to make the beautiful leather and suede for our Stevie bag and belts, to the delight of our customer."

    – Ruth Alice Rands, HERD

A guide to the hide

Our TUMBLED leather is available in sides (half hides) or divided into three distinct pieces: bend, half shoulder, and belly. Each has unique characteristics:

Bend: This is a large panel from the centre of the hide, with the most consistent fibre and grain structure. The grain has a smooth and sometimes pebbled quality across the panel. It is also common to see scratches and other evidence of the animal’s life grazing in British pastures, where hedgerows and fences are necessary.

Half shoulder: Because these pasture-fed animals have spent their lives lifting and lowering their heads while grazing, the shoulders have more pronounced growth marks. The shoulder is a strong and dense part of the hide; each piece varies in shape and size. It is common to see scratch marks from hedges, trees or fences.

Belly: The belly has a looser fibre — because the belly of an animal needs to stretch. These are long narrow pieces, best suited to small leather goods, trims, and design uses that embrace a more yielding temper.

Our SUEDE and FIRM leathers are available in bend pieces only.
